Matthew 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Before the True Light Fellowship was formed, there were two Cantonese fellowships in our church:
1) Carmel Fellowship--originated with a group of energetic young people gathered every Friday night at church. They sing, study the Bible, share and pray together. Later on, some brothers and sisters from Southeast Asia joined in. They transitioned to using English only for their meetings.
2) Elim Fellowship-formed by mostly seniors but eventually disbanded due to deteriorating health problems.
In the end of 2009, Elder Mark Ho called the Cantonese brothers and sisters to form a new fellowship and named it True Light. Bro. Al Chu became the fellowship coordinator. Members from other churches also joined in. The one a month meetings had about 18 people gathered in homes of brothers and sisters on Saturday night. Eventually, the meeting was stopped because Bro. Al Chu moved to Virginia.
During COVID, Pastor Zhao asked Peter Leung to start up the fellowship again but it was hard to find a time and meeting place. The online meeting platform was also a technical barrier.
After COVID, many Cantonese speaking brothers and sisters stayed after church on Sunday to communicate. In March 2024, the Training Deacon Ada and Church Secretary Alice (Peter Leung's wife) called for a monthly meeting after Holy Communion Sunday from 1;30pm to 3 pm.
Right now the new True Light fellowship has about 15 attendees. There are believers for many decades and new members. They focus on singing praise songs, sharing and praying to build up each other. May the Lord call a coordinator for this fellowship soon!
