“‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob.’ And Moses trembled and did not dare to look.” This is from Acts 7:32, part of the scripture reading for May 1, 2026, in the Chinese Daily Devotion.

Having started this journey at the beginning of the year, I found myself finishing the Gospel of Luke just today. Daily Devotion is a short but meaningful part of the day, with the goal of reading and reflecting on the entire Bible over a three-year cycle, with the help of our brothers, sisters, and Pastor Zhao. Everyone is invited to share their thoughts on the daily scripture, and through this, you encounter many life experiences and moments that can move you each day.

When we first began, I would often join the Google Meet without doing any background reading beforehand. However, as someone who was only baptized last November and had read just a chapter or two of Genesis before that, I realized there was a lot I couldn’t fully understand. Being fluent in both Chinese and English, I started reading the English verses the day before, so I could better grasp the context and see how the next day’s discussion would unfold.

Growing spiritually is not easy; it is supposed to be tiring. There may be struggle, and there may be moments when your faith feels shaken along the way. How do I even wake up at 6:56 every day? And maybe spiritual growth looks different for each person; perhaps you are already doing much more than I am. But if we can all take even a little time—no matter the method—to pray and seek God’s word daily, then with each day, we become, not “perfect,” but closer to God.
