On Saturday, October 4, our church went to Homestead Farms in Poolesville, MD for our annual apple picking event. It was a beautiful fall day and everyone enjoyed being outside, walking through the rows and rows of apple trees. As always, there were many apple varieties to choose from – some of the favorites were Crimson Crisps, Fujis, and the green Granny Smiths (for baking!). The apples there always seem crispier and tastier than the apples bought from the store. It was hard not to pick too many!

After overloading our wheelbarrows with apples, we headed to the pavilion where we ate lunch together. It seemed like everyone not only brought their own lunch but something to share with the group as well. There were sandwiches, noodles, fruits and vegetables, and of course, lots of chips and other snacks!

After a lively lunch, some of us walked through the farm store where they had pumpkins, squash, vegetables, apple cider, and flowers for sale. We paid for our pounds of apples and headed home to think about what we were going to do with all the apples we bought! It was nice to be able to give some away to friends and coworkers but also fun to bake pies, cake, crisps, cobblers, and more! If you didn’t join us this year, we hope you can come next year and enjoy the fellowship time with our brothers and sisters!
