Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

As we move through the rhythms of daily life — work, family, school, relationships, endless plans and unfinished tasks — we often look fine on the outside, yet our hearts are frequently tired, overwhelmed, and heavy. Sometimes even our prayers become nothing more than a sigh. When I read this verse, I suddenly understood: Jesus isn’t telling us “Don’t be tired,” but rather acknowledging, “Yes, you truly are tired,” and then gently inviting us, “Come to Me.”

This past year, I experienced many moments of emotional exhaustion. Some days, work piled up with task after task. Other times, small issues in life happened back-to-back, leaving me anxious and restless through the night. One evening, while driving on the highway, the sunset was beautifully spread across the sky, yet my heart felt a sudden wave of fatigue and discouragement. I wasn’t even sure whether it was stress, sadness, or simply a longing to be comforted. All I wanted was to pull over and take a deep breath. During that season, I came across Matthew 11:28 again, and it felt as if God gently whispered:

“You don’t have to hold everything together. You can come to Me.”

The “rest” Jesus promises is not an escape from life, but a steadiness and peace within life. He knows exactly what we are carrying and also knows which burdens we were never meant to shoulder alone. He desires to be our source of strength when we are at our weakest, and our place of peace when everything inside feels chaotic.

May we learn, in the midst of busyness, pressure, frustration, and anxiety, to return to the Lord. Sometimes it may be just a short prayer, or a moment of quiet before Him, but when we lay our burdens at His feet, He will uphold us in His own way and renew our strength.

For true comfort does not come from improved circumstances, but from the Lord who is always with us. Amen.
